INTRO - Have you your Own Memory Triggers? Send us your best!

Many of our software users have thought of their own unique Memory Triggers for remembering words.
Have you thought of some great Memory Triggers for learning and remembering foreign words and genders, that really tickle your fancy, and that you'd like to share with us?
Original ones that you have invented yourself, that might help your fellow language learners?
Better still, do you have an original picture, graphic, photo, photo collage or montage that illustrates it.... if so you can now upload this with your Memory Trigger onto our site... Do make sure you have the rights to any pictures (that they are your own originals and have not been copied from anywhere else - thereby infringing copyrights.)
Remember, for nouns, to include a GENDER TRIGGER character, that reminds you of the gender of the word. For feminine words add a female character, preferably someone associated with that word.
The best ones will be added to our 200 Words a Day! website. We'll get our artists to illustrate the best Memory Trigger this Month, if you have not uploaded a picture.
And the best triggers of the month gets a 200 Words a Day software programme of their choice.

1. Spanish and German Sentences Courses 1 and 2

We've now completed Spanish Sentences Courses 1 and 2 and German Sentences Courses 1 and 2. These Courses incorporate the words in Courses 1 and 2 respectively of the respective language. They are being beta-tested now, and available in the first week of October.
Great for consolidation of your vocabulary, and seeing the words in context, and hearing them spoken by native speakers. Then you can test yourself in the same way as you do with the 200 Words a Day! vocabulary courses. If you need to review the particular word in the sentence, you can simply CLICK on the picture, and this brings up the word's memory trigger.

2. SPANISH TIP: llevar...downloadable as a Verb Training and Testing software program

This way you will really get to grips with the verb...
Last newsletter I referred you to the webpage with the fully conjugated verb, llevar, pronounced YEVAR, the Spanish word for carry, take or wear.
OK, we've made this into a short software program. Why? Because the learning is much more focussed, structured, logically presented in a software program. Then, you can test yourself.
With this software program lesson, that just focusses on this one verbs, you will work through the course on the whole verb, and the sample sentences. This will solidly consolidate your knowledge of this verb....
...and because it is a regular verb, you will get to see how all regular verbs are constructed (conjugated) in the various tenses.
Your learning through such a programme is therefore several times more effective, than just scanning a webpage. Most people just skip most of the stuff on a webpage lesson.
But with our software lessons that is more difficult to just skip a word, because you get tested on the contents. Do a few lessons like this, and soon you will have a solid grounding in many verbs and in Spanish verb structure.
Try the whole verb of llevar in the software lesson, do the tests, and the sentences that are put in to illustrate each of the tenses in action.
Each lesson covers one tense, so you can learn the whole tense, then test yourself on it.
No matter what your level, if you are a student of Spanish you will get a great deal of benefit of going through and learning the verb llevar and some of the idioms associated with it.
The webpage lesson of the verb Llevar, then when you get the software version you will see how much more effective, and disciplined it makes your learning. The interactive nature of the software makes it much, much more fun, and easier to use, that trying to solely read text from a website screen.
There is just one problem. Tom, the IT programmer is on holiday now for two weeks, because his son is getting married, so it will not be available in the next newsletter.... then in coming months we will have a regular release of different verbs.

4. GERMAN TIP: Why is the builder BOWING?

Check out this cracking Memory Trigger of the German builder BOWING. What a sight!
NLP experts will tell you that actively 'acting out' something while learning will increase your learning experience, more deeply embedding that learning. It becomes physiologically programmed into your body. Not just in the brain via the ears, but also via the body motions, the muscle memory. This is part of the kinesthetic sense.
So to learn the word for build in German, start BOWING with your hammer and nails, so that you never forget the word.

6. BOOK REVIEW: THE THIRD EAR, You Can Learn Any Language, by Chris Lonsdale
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If you are struggling with learning a language you will find the book The Third Ear might be the thing to unblock some of your obstacles.
A very interesting book about language learning by a master language teacher, who has been there and done that. I met the author in Hong Kong, and he gave me a copy - complete with author's autograph. We spent a couple of very interesting hours discussing language learning and such like. Chris speaks and teaches Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese and English.
The Third Ear is that 'sixth sense', that intuitive force that comes into play when you are immersed in a language, and things like grammar structure start to become understood at a subconscious level.

Common questions relate to the typing of the different foreign characters, e.g. upside-down question-marks, accents, apostrophes!
Sometimes users are not typing in a little accent or letter here or there, resulting in them dropping points in their tests.
