The Spanish verb mentir means 'to lie' and is an irregular Spanish IR verb.

To remember this, imagine George Washington saying, "We are not MEANT to tell a lie HERE!"

USING the SPANISH VERB MENTIR

mentir can also mean: to tell an untruth.
mentir descaradamente: to lie shamelessly.

mentiroso/a (adj m/f): lying.
el mentiroso / la mentirosa(nm/f): liar.
Es muy mentiroso: He is a terrible liar.

la mentira (nf): lie.
mentira piadosa: white lie.
una araña de mentiras: a toy spider.

vos replaces tú - you, informal, singular -
- in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and also in some countries of Central America.
Sometimes it also replaces the formal singular 'Usted'.
In irregular IR verbs, the conjugations remain the same as for tú except for the addition of accents in the following tenses:
Presente: vos mentís
Imperativo: ¡mentí!
