Spanish Verb SER: to be. Fully conjugated
The Spanish for 'to be' is the irregular Spanish verb ser.
Imagine you want to be a SERIOUS person.
SER, a top ten Spanish verb describes WHAT or WHO something or someone is.
ESTAR (to be) describes HOW something is.
I find that the fastest and easiest way to learn and REMEMBER new Spanish words is with memory trigger cartoon pictures ... and the best way to REMEMBER the 10 main uses of SER, and 27 uses of ESTAR is with the cartoons of SER-pents [like SER-ious SERlock Holmes (left)] involved in the various uses of SER. Another verb that can be used for certain forms of the English verb 'to be' is tener - to be hungry, to be 20 years old, to be cold, to be hot, to be frightened ... these all use the verb tener, as do loads of idiomatic expressions.

HOW TO CONQUER SPANISH VERB CONJUGATION
- The Spanish verb ser is an irregular verb, and you need to learn it.
- Learn to conjugate ser and learn how it differs from the verb estar.
- Each month we feature daily verbs from one of the major pattern groups AR-ER-IR... so one month you can do an AR verb-a-day, the next month ER verb-a-day, and the month after - an IR verb-a-day! That is the best way I find to really consolidate my knowledge of the verb conjugations - family by family over time, steadily building and consolidating.
